Howdy,

Hope you had a nice Mother's Day last Sunday!

Good news, the Parent Summit last Saturday went very well. :)

We had 150 people showing up throughout day, and everyone kept saying how great it is to be able to meet up with other parents on things that really matter.

There were Discussions on 8 topics from Achievement / Opportunity gap to the Upper Schools, some discussions with 20 people. Many parents thought it very helpful to hear about similar experience or learnings from other schools.

We had 30 people at the Parents of Color affinity group, and the first things everyone mentioned was how amazing we're all here. Someone mentioned never been in an environment like this as a parent. And multiple people said we want to continue this. I personally found that session especially moving, and pretty sure I wasn't alone in that.

The other thing I noticed was that in the morning everyone looked serious but after the morning discussion, during the wrap-up, everyone was walking around smiling. In photos after photos that the volunteers sent in, I saw the same thing. Connection is very power!

The the superintendent, the head of the teacher union, the school committee, and the mayor (head of the committee) and even our state representative came for the end-of-day summary, which is recorded by CCTV. And the mayor mentioned maybe should have a school-parent town hall next. :)

We're working hard on compiling the discussion summary from the meeting. Looks like most likely the follow-up next-steps meeting will be Monday June 11th at 6:30pm. A lot of people are also interested in working on the individual topics covered at the summit.
