Head of the Charles | Pumpkin Float

Howdy,

My husband's been away for a week plus overseas. So I've been solo-parenting.

I asked the kids at beginning of the trip what they miss about dad. "Watching TV!" Okay so I'm indeed a bit stricter on screentime. We did watch a couple times since then, but my kids have since stopped asking me to watch something. Instead we come home, eat, play, and they do some homework while I do a bit of work before bedtime.

I asked again what they missed about daddy. I was told restaurants & yummy food, then gifts when daddy returns. Anything else? My son said, "Daddy is a very good daddy... Because he helps me with things." Like what? "Like the math challenge. It's was hard."

It's good to know daddy's the fun one in the family for our kids. :) And that they appreciate how he helps them.

On solo-parenting, some of you might remember my adventures from last time. This time it went much smoother, as I downscaled what I could get done while alone with the kids.

  • That trade show out of town? Skipped!

  • New work request? I asked for more time and explained why and communicated progress while working on it.

  • My plan to de-clutter that over-full closet? I didn't really have the energy so it's okay.

  • When my son came home tired from very fun sleepover party, we decided to skip the Robot Block Party even though we all initially looked forward to it. (So let me know how it went. :)

  • Instead we all had a 2-hour nap, the best! :)

We did make it out to the enchanted forest/hubweek earlier. But it wasn't easy: turns out the T changed to a very full bus half way. For the enchanted forest, my daughter liked the wooden instruments with lights, and birds tweeting when you pulled on them.

The rest of hubweek was pretty cool, a lot of new media. And best of all we ran into a friend there. :)

Looks like a warm weekend ahead. Hope you get to do something fun outdoors, like watching the head of the charles. :)
