End of Summer, Fireworks, & Puppets
Well, school starts next week!
You know, while I'll miss the longer days and the warm weather, I'm glad the summer's wrapping up. With the late start and early end of summer camps, I have to spend a lot more time on childcare and pickup/drop-off. There're only so many games of Monopoly and Uno you can play, now that my son's a Monopoly expert, and taught his younger sister to be a real estate mogul. ;-)
I've found myself yelling more at the kids, especially in the last week. I've heard from other parents (especially those with kids at home for the summer) how they are also happy the summer's finishing up, so kids can be back in school. We'd then have more time for work and other things we've been planning. Even some kids are saying the same! ;-)
So, we're excited for school! We're gonna have a couple of 1st Day Parent Coffees at our school. I remember how stressful that was last year: not sure what to do, my daughter clinging tightly to me for her first day of kindergarten. Hopefully we can help answer questions from new parents. And let me know if you'd like to come help out, as we still need volunteers.
Not at MLK? Let me know what your schoo's doing to welcome new parents. Thanks!
Last weekend the dimsum for parents at the Chinese Summer School went very well. It's always fun to get new families to try dimsum. :) We made a reservation at 11am at Hei La Moon, the best dimsum in Chinatown, and didn't have to wait. And I didn't even know they now have a little playground near the gate.
And the Chinese Summer School itself went great! We had a wonderful performance that parents enjoyed and kids clearly had a lot of fun at. Just how they get the kids remember all those songs in Chinese is a mystery to me. And below is my daughter enjoying kungfu. :)
